From the Sands of Kyzylkum to the Peaks of the Tian Shan

A 15-Day Odyssey Through the Heart of the Silk Road

The Route: Tashkent – Samarkand – Kyzylkum Desert – Bukhara – Chimgan Mountains – Fergana Valley – Osh – Son-Kul Lake – Issyk-Kul Lake – Bishkek
Duration: 15 Days / 14 Nights
Season: June, July, August

The Journey

This is not merely a tour; it is a journey through time, landscapes, and civilizations. Over 15 unforgettable days, you will traverse the legendary Silk Road, crossing from the ancient, mosaic-clad cities of Uzbekistan into the pristine, nomadic heartlands of Kyrgyzstan.

One day, you will walk in the footsteps of Tamerlane beneath the towering blue domes of Samarkand. A few days later, you will find yourself riding a camel across a vast desert, sleeping in a felt yurt under a blanket of stars. You will learn the secrets of silk-making in a centuries-old workshop and then ascend to a high-mountain lake where Kyrgyz shepherds still tend their flocks as they have for millennia.

This is a journey for the explorer who seeks diversity—a perfect blend of architectural grandeur, authentic cultural encounters, and breathtaking natural beauty.

The Itinerary: A Symphony of Experiences

Day 1: Welcome to Tashkent
Arrival in the capital of Uzbekistan. A private transfer will take you to your hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2-3: Samarkand – The Crossroads of Culture
Travel to Samarkand, the “Rome of the East.” Your exploration begins with the iconic Registan Square, a harmonious ensemble of three majestic madrasahs. You’ll visit the awe-inspiring Bibi-Khanum Mosque, the sacred Gur-Emir Mausoleum (resting place of Amir Timur), and the remarkable Ulugbek Observatory. On the second day, wander through the Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis, a stunning avenue of turquoise-tiled mausoleums, and experience the vibrant colors and scents of the Siab Bazaar. In the afternoon, journey into the Kyzylkum Desert to your yurt camp. Enjoy a dinner by the bonfire before an unforgettable night in the desert.

Day 4: Desert Adventures & The Holy Springs
Embrace the nomadic spirit with a camel ride across the desert dunes. Refresh yourself with a swim in the turquoise waters of Lake Aydarkul, a true oasis. En route to Bukhara, you will step back in time at the Sarmysh Gorge, an open-air gallery with over 3,500 ancient petroglyphs, and visit the sacred Nurata complex, home to a spring with holy fish. Arrive in Bukhara and take a leisurely evening walk through its historic streets.

Day 5: Bukhara – A Living Museum
Dedicate a full day to exploring Bukhara, a city where the past feels present. Discover the Poi-Kalan Complex with its legendary minaret, the Ark Fortress (a city within a city), the exquisite Samanid Mausoleum (a masterpiece of 10th-century architecture), and the Lyabi-Hauz pond complex. Visit the summer palace of the last emir, Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa. In the evening, board a comfortable night train back to Tashkent.

Day 6: Mountain Serenity in Chimgan

Check into a comfortable mountain lodge or yurt camp, surrounded by towering spruce trees. Take a guided walk along the gorge, immersing yourself in the tranquility of the wilderness.

Day 10: Son-Kul – The Nomad’s Heaven
Ascend to the breathtaking Son-Kul Lake, one of Kyrgyzstan’s most pristine jewels, located at an altitude of over 3,000 meters (9,800 feet). This is the land of the nomads. You will stay in traditional Kyrgyz yurts, experiencing their warm hospitality. The afternoon is free for unforgettable experiences: horseback riding along the shore, hiking to panoramic viewpoints, or simply sitting with local shepherds and listening to their stories.

Day 11-13: Issyk-Kul – The Pearl of Central Asia
Descend to the magnificent Issyk-Kul Lake, the second-largest alpine lake in the world. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, this vast, non-freezing lake offers pristine beaches and a perfect setting for relaxation. You will have three full days to unwind at a comfortable pension on the shore. Swim, sunbathe, enjoy water sports, or simply relax and soak in the stunning scenery.
