Climbing to Hinchuli peak

Hinchuli (6,441 m) – is one of three major peaks within the periphery of Annapurna sanctuary and was discovered by Col. Jimmy Roberts. Modi khola is seen from its eastern face which guards the main entrance to Annapurna sanctuary. In the year 1971 via the south east face it was climbed by the American Peace Corps Expedition for the first time. Mt. Hiunchuli still remains an unknown route. So, a few trekkers had climbed this peak because it lies in a remote location. This trekking way is not easy because it passes through steeps and dense bamboo forest, which is menaced by invisible danger of hanging glaciers. From the north, the mountain rises steeply above the moraines of the Annapurna south glacier in a series of shabby buttresses and an well defined and complicated north ridge. This leads to ultimate triangle of fluted ice which forms the summit. In the east, the summit is bounded by a ridge which rises in an icy parabola, and then we descend towards moraines over the lodges at base camp. Climbing Hiunchuli peak requires itinerary, map, good knowledge and experience because it is considered as one of the most difficult climbs for its climbing routes.

Day 10-25: Ascending and Descending of Ama Dablam Top 6856m/22488ft

Based on their previous Actual Adventures Expedition experience, the expedition leader with other crew members make the planning and other necessary ground work for the ascent. A few days may be spent on the Base Camp for organizing food, acclimatization, and practicing rope and other mountain climbing skills.

A typical strategy would look like what follows:

After getting established on the Base Camp, move further up to Camp 1 at 5,700m (17,400 feet) along the standard route. Generally, one night is spent at camp 1for acclimatization and then returning to the Base Camp for the final preparation to scale the summit. There are three camps above the base camp before reaching the summit. The ascent from Base Camp to camp 1 is technically challenging. From Camp 1, follow existing fixed lines. Establish new ropes wherever necessary both for ascent and descent. The climb from Camp 2 to Camp 3 is mostly ice and mixed-climbing. The climb from Camp 3 to the summit is relatively less technical. By the Day 26, scale the peak before getting back to the Base Camp.

Day 26-27: Trek to Lukla

Trek back to Thyangboche, Namche Bazaar and Phakding finally arriving at Lukla.

Day 28: Fly Lukla to Kathmandu

Manaslu Circuit Trek

Overview

Bordering Annapurna Conservation Area to the west and Tibetan plateau in the north and east, the area was opened to the foreign tourist since 1991 only. A complete circuit around the Manaslu(8163m), the 8th highest peak in the world is known for its unique blend of cultural heritages, religious practice and antique lifestyle.

This three week trek begins with the full day drive from Kathmandu to Arughat. The walk starts following the mighty Budhi Gandaki River in the northwards. As we continue the trek the gorge becomes steeper and narrowed making the walk even more challenging through the villages on the either side of the valley. Soon, the valley widens up to the astonishing alpine pasture with small Tibetan style villages in the lap of dramatic north face of Manaslu. From the village of Samagon the trail climbs up to Larkya La pass (5213m) which offers the panoramic view of Hiunchuli, Manaslu, Cheo and Himlung Himal. From the pass the trail descents through the alpine meadows to Bimthang before joining main Annapurna Circuit route at Besisahar.

To complete the walk of Manaslu circuit, one should be physically and mentally strong. Though the trek is organized by highly experienced professional, one should properly acclimatize to get used with the rising altitude.
